The Europa League. Hands up if you’re bothered?
Same old question again: Finishing fourth or European glory?

Think we have enough depth to be able to compete , time for our Next Gen players to step up we also have enough first team players also .

The Europa League is too many games and too much travelling for the squad. Plus risks of injury etc. If the tossers than ran European football switched back to having a Cup Winners Cup and a UEFA Cup, gave the two competitions a bit more coverage and stopped the riddiculous system whereby the dreggs of the Champions League (or European Cup) can play in other competitions after being knocked out from the big one, I would say yeah, let's get a Euro trophy. However because of the big money in the CL, I would say I am not very interested in the Europa League and would like to put all our resources in finisning 3rd or above, try for a domestic trophy and target CL football for next season.

I reckon a team which consists players like Friedel, Gomes, Naughton, BAE, Parker, Hudderstone, Livermore, Townsend, Holtby, Defoe, Adebayor is more than enough to compete in the Europa League.

Let's grab a cup to celebrate the 30th anniversary of our last European success !

In the current format, I would be 100000000000000% sure that finishing in CL/finishing above Arse are much more important than EL...Just like what Stew said,  it is resource draining and it is suicidial to focus on two competition...it is a tourament for keeping backup palyers happy and neuture the young players..

Point taken when it comes to priorities and we all want to be in CL, but how many times have you watched Spurs wishing them to lose a match? In my lifetime...not once!
So when i am at the Lane watching them play vs Tblisi in a couple of weeks, having paid for my season ticket, i want them to win and progress.
Do I want to see AVB pick our strongest first XI from the prem?, not neccesarily as I think it is a good competition to play a mixture of the upcoming players in amongst the established players, but if we start to progress (post the league stage), then why not have a chance to win something and really utlise this season's stronger squad of players that we have put together.

I think the more realistic question is which cup you want to win rather than a choice between a cup and the league place, because the 4th place and above should not be in question.

I too never want to see us lose a game Dodge, however the thread heading read if we are 'bothered'. Of course I would like us to win everything in which we play in, but am mostly moaning about the format of this competition and the knobs that run UEFA.

My point I guess is that it would be a pity to go three quarters through this competition, pick up injuries through this compeitition, not win this competition and then partly as a result of all this, fail to qualify for the CL.

Agree about the format and the muppets that run UEFA, it could have much more drama in a knock-out tournment of old, but TV revenue seems to dictate the number of games needed to fund it.
Last year we played alot of matches with a pretty much full strength side (Gallas aside), and it came to nothing.
But maybe it is the 'bothered' sentiment that is the problem, I just always hope that as long as the choosen starting 11 and matchday squad of 16, are as commited and bothered about every game, then at least we have every chance, regardless of the eventual outcome and the disappointment of losing will be made up by our overall goal of 23+ PL wins that would be enough to get us to the promised land...

Every club prioritises. Man United's starting eleven in a CL group game is sure to be stronger compared to early rounds in domestic cup competitions. One question I would have liked to ask during the Q&A night at Delaney's is how players respond to that theoretical question of CL qualification over a '2nd' tier cup success? for example, Bale might well say he would prefer to win the Europa league than finish 4th, yet had we finished 4th and qualified for the CL would he still be so desperate to move to RM, knowing he can showcase his talent in football's premier club competition with Spurs??

As far as the Europa leagues goes I'd play squad players + one or two first teamers up to the quarter final. All well and good if we progress, but no tragedy if we suffer an early exit.
